TCAN Announces Updated COVID-19 Protocols

Dear TCAN members and friends,

TCAN is announcing today that effective Friday August 27, we will require proof of COVID-19 vaccination and a photo ID from all patrons attending live music events, movie screenings and other programs. At this time, negative COVID-19 test results will not be accepted for entry.

In accordance with guidance from the CDC and effective immediately, we have reinstated the requirement for protective masks to be worn by all attendees when not actively eating or drinking.

This decision is one we have been contemplating for the last two weeks, as the delta variant has spread in Massachusetts driving an increase in infections. We consulted other venues, our members and patrons, a long list of performing artists, local health authorities and a local epidemiologist. In recent days, we have all seen similar announcements from music venues and theatres in and around Boston including the Orpheum, Paradise Club, House of Blues, City Winery, the Middle East, Club Passim, Narrows Center and many others. You will hear more venues announce in the next several days.

We have taken this action as the best way for us to prioritize the health, safety and well-being of our members and patrons, staff and volunteers, and the performing artists who visit our stage. This policy will be reevaluated on an ongoing basis as the situation continues to evolve, informed by CDC guidance and direction from public health officials.

We understand that some of you are not ready to comply with these requirements. For those individuals we are prepared to offer refunds for any shows you cannot attend under these restrictions.

Acceptable proof of vaccination may be provided by presenting your original vaccination card, a clear photocopy, or a legible photo of the card on your smartphone or smartphone app. The name on your vaccination card must match the name on your government-issued photo ID.

We will publish additional information on our website, including more detailed instructions on loading your vaccination card on your phone for easy presentation.

This is a moving target as we all know, and as the situation changes we will respond. All of us look forward to getting the pandemic fully behind us so we can return to enjoying live music once again - just like we did in the good old days (2019). I look forward to seeing you soon at TCAN!

With best regards,

David Lavalley
