R. HALE ANDREWS, JR.
Board Chairman


Hale has been a Member of the TCAN Board since late in 2007, when he was elected to fill a vacant seat.  He is leading the Development Committee’s work on Business Campaigns and is a member of the Human Resources Committee.

Hale is an attorney in Sherborn, MA, serving as the family lawyer/outsourced general counsel for families with complex personal and financial needs.  He is also a partner in Varen Group, LLC, which provides strategic consulting services to firms ranging from Greenwich, CT investment advisors to public biotech companies. 

For more than 25 years Hale practiced law at Hill & Barlow in Boston.  There he held a number of leadership posts, including Co-Chair of the firm’s Management Committee, Chair of the Partner Compensation Committee, and Chair of the Pro Bono Committee.  His legal practice there included representing both the Wang (now Citi) Center for the Performing Arts for 22 years and other entertainment clients such as Suffolk Downs.  Hale also served for several years on of the Board of Directors of Capital American Financial Corporation, a NYSE-listed insurance holding company based in Cleveland, OH, where he chaired the audit committee.

Hale’s community service and non-profit work includes the Board of Advisors of The Catalogue for Philanthropy, several years as Chair of the Boston Musica Viva, and a number of years on the Board of Overseers at the Wang Center.  In 1994 he was awarded the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Certificate of Merit for his extensive pro bono work on the laws governing manufactured housing communities.

Hale is a graduate of Harvard College and Yale Law School.


JANET LUNDBERG
Community Outreach and Legal


Janet has served as a member of TCAN’s Board since 2005, and supports the Board as its Clerk and legal advisor.  

Janet is a practicing attorney and partner of Krokidas & Bluestein, a Boston firm of twenty attorneys providing representation to private, nonprofit and public organizations and individuals.  She concentrates her practice in the areas of civil litigation, appellate practice and administrative law. Janet also advises non-profit and for-profit entities and professionals in contracts, regulatory compliance and other areas.

Prior to joining Krokidas & Bluestein, Janet served as an attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice in the Appellate Section of the Land and Natural Resources Division, where she provided appellate representation in the federal appellate courts and the U.S. Supreme Court and as assistant counsel to the Attorney General for Professional Responsibility. She also worked as an attorney with the U.S. Department of Energy, focusing on regulatory litigation.

Janet has been involved in music performance all her life, having performed in large symphonic choruses (Chorus pro Musica, Boston; Choral Arts Society, Washington, DC) and other large and small choirs and pop groups, some of which toured in South America, London and the United States. She is a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church choir in Natick, where she served on the Music Director search committee. Janet has also served as a Board Member, Board Chair and Executive Committee Chair of Chorus pro Musica.

Janet is a 1973 graduate of Smith College and a 1976 graduate of George Washington University Law School.



KAREN PIERCE
Development


Karen joined TCAN’s Board of Directors in 2007, and serves as the chair of the Major Gifts Committee (Leadership Circle).  As an active TCAN volunteer she participates as a member of the Membership Team utilizing her extensive experience in building membership, fundraising and event planning.

Karen is currently Director of Membership for New England Wild Flower Society, a leading nonprofit plant conservation organization based in Framingham with a history of protecting our native flora since 1900.

Karen’s extensive volunteer experience includes service to the Wellesley College Students' Aid Society, The Sherborn Music Makers, The Sudbury Savoyards, Massachusetts Horticultural Society, New England Wild Flower Society and the Wellesley Village Church. Karen has served as a Board member of the Wellesley College Alumnae Association, and the Board of the Dover Foundation, a theatre organization raising funds for college scholarships for local students.

Karen and her husband have lived in Dover since 1991. Now empty nesters, the Pierces regularly participate in community theatre productions as well as various singing opportunities.

Karen received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and English from Wellesley College in 1984.



DAVID G. FALWELL
Finance and Development


A TCAN Board member since 2004, David was appointed TCAN’s fifth Chairman in May of 2008. During his tenure David chaired TCAN’s Human Resources committee, responsible for all policies related to personnel, employment and performance appraisal.

David is Executive Vice President and Chief Lending Officer of Middlesex Savings Bank, culminating a 30-year career as a senior banking executive.  He is former CEO of Omega Performance Corporation, an international training and consulting company, and has held executive sales assignments within the high technology industry.

David served as Chair of the Metrowest Chamber of Commerce through December of 2007. He is a member of the Board of the Massachusetts Business Development Corporation, a privately-held business lending and capital investment firm located in Wakefield. 

Committed to causes that preserve and improve the quality of life in the region, David is also a Board member of the following nonprofit organizations: Framingham Adult English as a Second Language (FAESL), Thyroid Foundation of America, Unitarian Universalist Society of Wellesley Hills and National Scoliosis Foundation.

David holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Boston College, and received his Master’s of Business Administration at Indiana University.


PAUL MCKINLEY
Business Campaigns

Paul joined the TCAN Board of Directors in 2006. He is an active member of the Development committee, with a focus on Business Campaigns.

Paul McKinley is President of MagicFire, a pyro-musical design and engineering firm with an International roster of clients and credits. Paul is a Sustaining Member of the American Pyrotechnic Association, The International Symposium on Fireworks (Session Chair) and The Pyrotechnic Guild International. Paul is also Guest Lecturer at the Advanced Pyrotechnic Seminar Series presented at Washington College every summer.

Paul was previously the Director of Engineering Operations at Bose Corporation and continues to provide consulting services to the company for a variety of acoustic and audio engineering projects.

Prior to joining Bose, Paul was a member of the Faculty at the Berklee College of Music. Paul is a graduate of Berklee (Composition) and an accomplished percussionist and pianist.

Paul has an extensive Community Service resume, including three terms on the Natick Board of Selectmen and a Board Member of a wide variety of Civic and Charitable organizations.



JAY BALL
Community Relations

Jay joined the TCAN Board of Directors in 2007, preceded by his wife Ricky who was a founding member of TCAN’s Board. Jay is an active participant on the Facility and Capital committee, and the Major Gifts Committee. Jay organized a volunteer project to reconstruct the TCAN Firehouse Cupola in 2004, and worked with founding Board member Craig Ross to construct the donor recognition wall in TCAN’s main lobby.

Now retired, Jay enjoyed a 37-year career in the fields of acoustical research and design, computers and medical electronics. He served six companies as Vice President of Engineering.

A semi-professional photographer, Jay’s work has been presented in seventeen exhibits, and recognized with fifteen awards at juried competitions. His talents as furniture craftsman and woodworker are displayed in many public and private institutions throughout the region. Jay is also an occasional songwriter, poet and author, and is a founding member of ArtsBridge.

A Natick community activist and advocate of volunteerism, Jay served for nine years as a member of the Natick Board of Selectmen, including two years as its Chairman. Jay was an active Natick Town Meeting Member for 25 years. Jay currently serves on the Metrowest Health Care Foundation Natick Grants Panel and the Metrowest Jewish Day School Building Committee, and the Natick Affordable Housing Trust. He is a member of Natick's Charter/By-Law Review Committee.

Jay was educated at MIT, where he received both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering.


FAYE HARRINGTON
Development

Faye is a resident of Framingham, Massachusetts and a member of the TCAN Board of Directors since June of 2008.

Most recently, Faye was the Executive Director of Boston Scientific Foundation, a corporate foundation formed by Boston Scientific Corporation to support national and local charitable efforts committed to improving access to quality healthcare and educational opportunities for the underserved. Now semi-retired, Faye holds a license as a certified Real Estate Agent.

Faye has been active in community theatre for over 18 years, including direction and production as well as featured performances in speaking roles with the Hovey Players, Medfield Players, and Franklin Players. As a volunteer, Faye is the current chair of the TCAN Players, our own community theatre troupe established in 2001 under Faye’s direction.

Faye lends support to the underprivileged in the Natick community as a volunteer for the Food Pantry of the Natick Service Council.

Faye received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Minnesota.


JOSEPH HURWITZ
Business Management

Joe is a founding member of TCAN, joining the Board in 1997.  From 1999 to 2003, Joe served as Chair of the Capital Campaign that led to the purchase of Natick's Central Firehouse from the Town of Natick to TCAN in 2001.  He then assumed management of the design and construction of the restored Firehouse, and saw the project through to it's completion in 2003.  Joe served as Board Chairman from 2003 thru 2007, retiring from the board due to term limits and then rejoining the board in June 2009.

Joe is a retired musician, engineer and real estate investor.  In his early years Joe was a “big band” trumpet player with a degree in music from Boston University, performing with many local big bands. Upon the demise of the “big band” era Joe changed careers, earning his BS in Engineering from Boston University while working at Raytheon Company as a project engineer.  Joe was employed by Raytheon for more than 25 years as a project engineer, business manager and consultant during the development of the Patriot Missile Program. Retiring from Raytheon in 1992, he began a successful real estate investment career until his retirement in 2007.

Joe's extensive community service includes terms on the Natick Finance Committee from 1976 through 1979, and as Finance Committee Chairman in 1978 and 1979.

Joe has been a resident of Natick since 1962. He and his wife Sandy, an active TCAN volunteer, have four children and four grandchildren.    



ROBBY LEVY
Development

Robby was appointed to TCAN’s Board for her first term in 2008.

A principal of the Wellesley Players community theatre organization, she has been an active member, past president, and development chair for 25 years. Robby is the co-founder and co-director for Youth Theatre in Wellesley, a noncompetitive theatre arts program offering performance opportunities for elementary school children.

Robby has served as a member of the Wellesley Cultural Council, a division of the Massachusetts Cultural Council. She has also served on the Gala Committee for the Berkshire Hills Music Academy, a post-secondary music-infused school for young adults with disabilities. Robby has served in a similar capacity for the American Cancer Society.

Robby is a trustee for The A.C. Ratshesky Foundation, a nonprofit foundation committed to fostering economic and social justice for low- and moderate-income families residing in Boston and its surrounding communities, and providing funds for childcare, education, and arts/culture.

Robby holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Drama and Speech.



ROBERT COURTEMANCHE
Finance Committee

A resident of Dover for the past ten years, Bob joined TCAN's Board of Directors in July of 2001, but left in 2006 as a result of term limit restrictions. He rejoined the Board in 2007. Bob supports the Board as a member of the Foundation Grants committee and Finance committee, and has been an active Box Office volunteer since March of 2001.

At Wellington Management Company, LLP for 34 years, Bob held positions as Securities Analyst and Portfolio Manager for institutional accounts.

Bob also serves as a member of the Board for the literary magazine "Ploughshares" and as a trustee for Tower Hill Botanic Garden in Boylston. One of his great interests is adopting greyhounds (he has two, Augustus and Elizabeth) and supporting Greyhound Friends in Hopkinton.

Of his strong commitment to TCAN, Bob observes: "...at age 68, after having finished my career I very much want to support TCAN. I believe in this wonderful community enterprise and the people who make it up, and are bound to see it survive and prosper in a time where there is much mediocrity and banality in American culture."

Bob is a graduate of Harvard University, where in 1962 he majored in Economics. His academic credentials also include a brief period at Columbia Law School.


JOSEPH LEWI
Development

Joe has been a member of the Board since 2005, and has played a leadership role in organizing TCAN's Annual Benefit events since joining the Board. As a TCAN volunteer, Joe participates on the Publicity and Marketing teams.

Joe brings more then 20 years of entertainment marketing and sales experience to TCAN. He is currently Director of Sales and Marketing for Horizons Edge Casino Cruises, a private corporation with locations in Boston and Tampa Bay. Joe's experience in event promotion, marketing, sales, public relations, and event planning and management has led to a a successful career marketing some of the world's most well-known brands, including Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey, Walt Disney, and Coca-Cola.  Joe has promoted a range of arts events ranging from Michael Flatley's Lord of the Dance, musical artists The Who and Aerosmith.

Joe resides in Natick with his wife Melissa and their two children.



TIMOTHY LePAIN
Finance and Development


A member of TCAN’s Board since 2005, Tim serves TCAN as its Treasurer and as a member of the Finance committee and Nominating committee.  Tim is also an active member of the Development committee with a focus on business campaigns.

Tim has worked professionally in the Financial Services industry since 1977, and is currently a Financial Advisor with Ameriprise Financial (formerly American Express Financial Advisors) with an office in downtown Natick. Tim holds a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) designation. While a Development Manager at Prudential Insurance Company of America, he was the recipient of the Presidential Citation and received several Prudential Academy of Honor awards. At Boston University, Tim teaches a course in Risk Management for BU’s Certified Financial Planner Program.

Tim is an active volunteer in several nonprofit organizations, including the American Heart Association, St.Linus Parish Church (Finance Committee, Pre Cana, CCD, and Lector), Society of Financial Services Professionals (Board and past President of Boston Chapter) and the MetroWest Chamber of Commerce (Small Business Council). Tim was a coach and Board member for the Natick Soccer Club.

Tim holds a Masters degree in Management from The American College in Bryn Mawr, PA, and is a graduate of the Covey Leadership Institute in Utah. Tim and his wife Betsy have lived in Natick since 1976, and have raised three children and five grandchildren.



STEVE LEVINSKY
Development


Steve is a lecturer, team coach, and glass artist - all in one. After 16 years with Fidelity Investments, Steve retired and launched his second set of careers.

At Fidelity he was Senior Vice President of Human Resources where he specialized in starting businesses within a business. Steve forged new territory in the 90s building Fidelity’s Internet business, and most recently a global institutional asset management company. Before Fidelity he worked in banking, national retail, state government, and executive search.

Helping individuals, teams, and businesses succeed has been a common thread throughout Steve’s 30-year career. Along with his day-to-day work, Steve regularly lectures with the Stockholm School of Economics and guest lectures at Boston University,   Suffolk University and with the Conference Board. Steve is affiliated with Team Coaching International where he completed the team coaching intensive certi?cation. He is a founder of Team Coaching Boston.

Steve puts both sides of his brain to work. Collaborating with his wife Denise, a potter, in their studios in Natick, he creates fused and slumped glass sculptures. None of Steve’s work is practical, but all of it is creative, whimsical, and interesting.

Involvement in the community is a core value with Steve. He is Chairman of Natick’s Personnel Board, an elected Town Meeting member, and frequently serves on special town committees. In addition to his participation on TCAN's Board, Steve is leading a fundraising effort to build a new community and senior center in Natick. Steve was recently awarded a grant by the Massachusetts Cultural Council for an outdoor art exhibit called Art in the Alley.

A graduate of Allegheny College in Political Science and Economics, Steve holds a patent, several trademarks and copyrights, and a ?rst place medal from the New York Film Festival.

Steve and Denise, their two daughters Sophie and Arabella, and chocolate lab Coco live in Natick, MA.  Sophie is a freshman at DePaul University in Chicago and Arabella is a junior at Natick High School.




FRANK SOLOMON
Artist Relations and Contracts


Frank has been a member of the TCAN Board of Directors since 2006. As a volunteer, Frank is an active supporter of the Rock Off Main Street program for teen musicians, and chaired a group of judges who selected winners of the TCAN/Berklee Rock Showdown.  He is a member of the Finance committee of TCAN’s Board, and provides consultancy related to artist contracts and production management.

Frank worked for fifteen years as an auditor and CPA with a network of artists, writers, photographers and musicians making up the bulk of his client roster. For the past eighteen years Frank has run his own management company, providing professional artist management services to national touring musicians in the rock, jazz, prog-rock, and fusion genres such as Dream Theatre, a progressive rock group, The Dixie Dregs, and guitarist Steve Morse among others.

Frank served on the board of The Eliot Montessori School in South Natick for five years, and was Treasurer of the school for four years. Frank’s son Jake is a student of Rivers School in Weston who also supports TCAN as an active volunteer, contributing hundreds of hours each year as TCAN’s chief lighting designer for concert programs.

Frank is a graduate of Northeastern University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business and Accounting.


DAVID LAVALLEY
Executive Director

David joined TCAN as its Executive Director in March of 2004. Prior to his appointment he supported TCAN as a volunteer, creating an extensive new website for which he acted as both project leader and contributing developer. He was former director of TCAN’s Rock On Main Street program for teen musicians. David also volunteered as an audio engineer, supporting TCAN concerts featuring performers including Richie Havens and jazz-fusion guitarist Julien Kasper.

David’s diverse career background combines over 25 years of marketing and business management experience with an ongoing presence on the local music scene as a performing and studio musician. After attending Boston University with a focus in marketing and business administration, he was former Director of Marketing Operations for the PC Business Unit of Digital Equipment Corporation, a post he also held at Compaq Computer Corporation for their Storage Products business with over $2B in annual revenues.

As a performing musician David appears throughout New England with his classic hits tribute band The Paisley Project, and has been featured at the MDC Hatch Shell, City Hall Plaza, Foxwoods Casino and The Center for Arts in Natick among many regional venues. His vocal talent has been heard on numerous radio and TV commercials heard nationally. David has appeared as a background vocalist on countless local recording projects, working with recording artists ranging from Didi Stewart, Bellevue Cadillac, members of The Cars and many others. As an amateur actor David appeared in community theatre productions including Fiddler On The Roof (Motel), Man of La Mancha (Sancho Panza), Guys and Dolls (Sky Masterson), Thornton Wilder's The Skin Of Our Teeth (Henry) and Anton Chekov's A Marriage Proposal (Ivan Vassilevich Lomov), among many others. He was recognized with the Helen S. Stratton Drama Scholarship.

David supports community youth activities as a coach for the Natick Soccer Club, and with the Kids Connect program for middle-school youth. David resides in Natick, MA with his wife Sherry Sandoval and their two children.
