Sunday evenings (and many other times over the weekend) find classical music alive and well at TCAN as the firehouse is set ablaze with virtuoso chamber music performances. Now approaching ten years of presenting quality professional performers from MetroWest and the Greater Boston area, "Bach, Beethoven and Beyond" provides the listener with an intimate, yet informal, setting in which to enjoy the finest that music has to offer.

The initial performance in what was originally called the Bach, Beethoven, and Bagels series occurred in February 1999 at the TCAN storefront and featured the Innovata Brass Quintet. Since that time we have been privileged to present performers with a wide repertoire and variety of instrumentation.

In addition to featuring established musicians, we have been committed to presenting lesser known performers, including student groups as opening acts. Each committee member is passionate about bringing affordable, top-quality classical music to our communities, recognizing that you are never too young or too old to listen to, appreciate, and learn about classical music.

In 2003-2004, "Bach, Beethoven, and Beyond" expanded to include a special subscription series featuring The Lydian String Quartet in a six-concert performance of the complete cycle of the Beethoven String Quartets. The final three concerts in this series are featured in the 2004-2005 season. Also new for 2004-2005 is a three-concert series from Music Moves Boston, a consortium of superb performers featuring the talents of the renowned pianist Virginia Eskin.

Serving with her are Erica Ball, TCAN Board Member and past President of Youth pro Musica; Roberta Humez, Founder and Artistic Director of Youth pro Musica (Greater Boston Youth Chorus) for 25 years, and currently Music Director at the First Unitarian Society in Newton; Roy Komack, Investment Advisor, TCAN Board Member and clarinetist with the Metropolitan Wind Symphony; Jon Mitchell, Professor of Music and Chair, Department of Performing Arts, University of Massachusetts, Boston; Stephen Plummer, artist and former director of ear training at Berklee College of Music; and Marvin Wolfthal, composer and concert pianist. Many other members of TCAN's community have contributed wonderful ideas for the series. The committee meets monthly. We welcome new members, new ideas, and new perspectives.
