TCAN Players announce auditions for Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery

REHEARSALS BEGIN:
Sunday September 14, 2008
Tuesday or Wednesday evening, Thursday evening, Sunday afternoons

PERFORMANCES:
Friday & Saturday November 7, 8, 14 and 15 - 8:00 pm
Sunday November 9 & 16 - 2:00 pm

Open auditions will be held June 24-25 2008 at 7pm with callbacks Thursday, June 26. All auditions held at TCAN.

Auditioners will be asked to do cold readings from the script. Resumes and headshots are requested. A perusal copy of the script will be available at the TCAN Box Office during regular Box Office hours.

Story Synopsis:

Anne of Green Gables is based on the classic novel by L.M. Montgomery. It is the story of a young orphan girl adopted by a middle-aged spinster and her bachelor brother in the early 1900's on Prince Edward Island, Canada. The play takes place over the course of four years, so during the course of the play all the children age from 12 to 16.

Character Information:

Anne Shirley – Our heroine, a wildly imaginative, temperamental and charming red-headed orphan.

Marilla Cuthbert – The middle-aged woman who adopts Anne; strong, crusty but with a loving heart.

Matthew Cuthbert – Marilla's brother, a farmer. Quiet, sweet. Adores Anne.

Rachel Lynde – Marilla's friend and nosy neighbor. Sharp-tongued, opinionated.

Diana Barry – Anne's best friend. Sweet-tempered and loving.

Josie Pyle – Schoolmate. Nasty and snobbish.

Ruby Gillis - Schoolmate. Good friend of Josie. Prone to hysteria.

Gilbert Blythe – Anne's academic rival and love interest, attractive and charming.

Moody Macpherson – Schoolmate. Serious, nice boy.

Charlie Sloane – Schoolmate. Class clown.

Mrs. Barry – Diana's mother. Doting and overprotective.

Mr. Philips – Avonlea schoolteacher. Strict, incompetent. Disliked by his students.

Miss Stacy – First female teacher in Avonlea. Kind and encouraging.

Mr. Spencer – From a nearby village, he brings Anne to Avonlea. A shyster.

Mrs. Blewitt – Mr. Spencer's neighbor. Nasty disposition, wants to adopt Anne (one scene).

Stationmaster – With Anne at the station, friendly (one scene plus one appearance).


CALLING CREW:
Costume designer, set designer, special effects coordinator, stage manager, props manager and stage hands required.
