Introspection
Artwork by Debra Ostrokolowicz and Pamela Lang Redick
Show runs June 26-July 28, 2000
Reception July 8, 4:30-6:00 pm

There is a similar introspective quality about the artwork and the artists Debra Ostrokolowicz and Pamela Lang Redick. Here one enters the quiet world of in-looking contemplation. Artwork is a reflection of the internal dialogue of the artist with the self, probing mind, heart and soul. This is an essential part of the creative process. In doing the artwork emotions are expressed, identified and sometimes released. This art tells us something of its creators.

The acrylic paintings of Pamela Lang Redick are done in a detailed realistic manner and rely on pattern, strong color and unusual compositions. The subjects have been shaped by personal memory and express an inner reality. There are emotional undercurrents even in the empty rooms. The real challenge is to get beyond the surface depiction to reveal that emotion or imply a mystery or get to a sense of peace.

For Debra Ostrokolowicz the figure is often the inspiration for examining and expressing different aspects of what it means to be human. She focuses on the individual but expands beyond into making connections with interior and exterior worlds; to the self, to others, and to nature. Moods and emotions are revealed through color, facial and bodily expression and overall composition on the page. Some themes she has continued to explore include time and its cyclical nature, the power of the body to heal, both physically and emotionally, the inherent beauty of the human body, and our ability as compassionate beings to see deeper similarities in our experiences.

Pamela Redick studied art at the Worcester Art Museum and Valparaiso University. She has exhibited work at The National Museum of American Art - Smithsonian Institution, Art Center for the Municipality of Athens, Athens Greece and the Butler Institute. She won the Municipal Art League prize and the Jacob and Bessie Levi prize at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Julius Hallgarten first prize at The National Academy of Design. Her work is in the collection of the Brauer Museum of Art, the Provincetown Art Association and Museum, Dade County Public art collection, Fidelity Investments, Borg Warner Corporation, Kemper Insurance Company, and Household International.
