The third and final
exhibition in TCAN'S first annual series celebrating "Youth Art," coordinated
by TCAN Visual Arts Education Chairperson Dawn Randall, S.H.E. features
extraordinary artwork by Concord Academy seniors Sarah Green, Hannah Cross,
and Emily Rosen. These seriously dedicated young artists have studied
in various mediums for years, winning recognition and awards including
First Place in the Idealist Magazine photography contest (Sarah Green)
and four Boston Globe Scholastic Art Awards Gold Keys (Emily Rosen).
Intrigued by color
and brush work, Sarah Green recently approached abstract painting, allowing
her sense of humor to infiltrate the work "hence the bobby pins" along
with the colors and shapes of salt marshes. Hannah Cross is most interested
in the study of the figure, capturing the essence of personality and emotion
in contrasts of light and dark. Emily Rosen's richly hued landscapes express
a subtlety and sophistication of vision impressive so early in an artistic
career. "The idea that art has the capacity to effect others and express
the artist's thoughts is what I revere so much about it and what I strive
for...I am infatuated by the notion that ground up pigments, mixed with
linseed oil, smeared across a canvas, can evoke some sort of sensation."
