TCAN\'S first annual
series of exhibitions celebrating "Youth Art" continues with Smorgasbord,
an exhibition of paintings, drawings, sculptures, and mixed media works
created by a diverse group of Natick High School students, grades 9 through
12. The exhibition will include submissions to the Boston Globe Scholastic
Art Awards. Art works by several students were recognized and awarded
Honorable Mention, Silver and Gold Keys. The Morse Institute Library in
Natick will also feature artwork by Natick middle and high school students
April 4th through April 28th as part of the Smorgasbord exhibition.
Smorgasbord was curated
by Natick High School art educators Pamela Le Blanc of Shrewsbury, Nancy
Long of Natick, and Lorna Lochiatto of Framingham. TCAN Visual Arts Education
Chairperson and former art educator Dawn Randall initiated the "Youth
Art" series of exhibitions in order to encourage young artists to have
confidence in their talents, and to share their creative work with the
community. She hopes to heighten awareness of the enthusiasm and energy
which characterizes young people's artistic expressions. "Some of these
young people will decide to continue their art education, an exciting
lifetime commitment." Dawn also acknowledges the Natick railway station
mural, a large color photo of which will be included in the exhibition,
as "a remarkable achievement for the art students and a real credit to
the art educators at Natick High and their supporters within the town."
