Inside Out: Art Quilts
At The Center for Arts in Natick

During the icy cold of January, TCAN's annual invitational quilt
exhibition adds warmth and color to the music and performing arts at The Center
for Arts in Natick. Internal journeys, armchair travels, paradoxes, puzzles,
and domestic pleasures provide the "stuff" of quilts by Nancy Halpern, Jeanne
Williamson, Sarah Gindel, Silvia Einstein, Linda Levin, Sandra Townsend Donabed,
Diane Tetreault, Vivian Kinzler, and Beatriz Grayson.
Inside Out: Art Quilts includes interpretations by award winning fiber artists
known nationally and internationally through exhibitions, publications, and
teaching. Jeanne Williamson applies textures and map images through mono-printing
and iron-on color transfers, creating collage-like effects. Sandra Townsend
Donabed also employs printing and heat-set processes to transfer her own digital
photographs to fabric, then enhances the "story" of these images by hand and
machine stitching. Sarah Jane Gindel, moved by her fatheršs battle with cancer,
transposes internal body images of cells and tissue onto fabric. Memories of
hunting mushrooms with her mother and grandfather inspire Nancy Halpern's Where
Therešs One There's Another.
A reception with the artists will be held Saturday January 8th from 5:30-7:00
p.m. in the gallery of The Center for Arts in Natick, 31 Main Street, Natick.
The show will run through January 2nd. TCAN has shown the work of more than
181 area artists in 25 TCAN gallery and satellite gallery shows.
The TCAN gallery is normally open from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays
and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays. Admission is free. Please call to double-check
these hours, as the gallery is staffed with volunteers. The art can also be
viewed during musical and spoken word performances at the Center, evenings Tuesday
through Sunday. Ticket prices for these events vary. For more information about
