These
paintings are related in that they are thresholds into a space you might
want to enter with your imagination. At times I question their completion,
and become doubtful. When I become too critical of my work, I remember Michael
Dowling telling me "A painting doesn't have to be about everything."
I feel that the viewer is the key to the success of a work. The artist has
faith in the work, and hope in the viewer. |

My art says what I cannot say in words; this is how I experience life, this
is what I know. I have been in several group shows in New England and am
in the permanent collection of the Rose Art Museum at Brandies University
Michael Dowling taught me how to be Emily Heywood, artist. |

Michael Dowling really helped me along with my vision quest not only through
talking but doing...I started to really paint, the first time in my life,
both spiritually and figuratively. I have a theory about painting...it's
a state of mind, not just a physical act. It also helped me find my true
work, photography. I like to think that my photography embodies the art
world as a whole and awakens people's senses to notice the beauty of life
and nature, and not to take any of it for granted.
