"Water Works" on view
at The Center for Arts in Natick

Show runs August 2-29
Artists' talk, reception August 7

Immerse yourself in contemplation of water at The Center for Arts in Natick gallery beginning Aug. 2.

``Water Works,’’ which runs through Aug. 30, includes paintings, prints and photographs about water by locally- and nationally-known artists Katherine Borkowski Byrne, Judith Quinn, Karin Rosenthal, Sally Williamson, Melissa Keighly, Eliz Magilligan, Pat Mattina, and Sara Baker.

``The human body is made up mostly of water,’’ said Susan Cohen Thompson, gallery director for TCAN. ``This exhibit explores our relationship to what’s in the water, and its power to shape our environment.’’ For example, Borkowski’s vibrant oil paintings comment on the evolution of humans from watery surroundings and the effect that people have on that environment today. Rosenthal’s surprising photographs of nude images and landscapes explore her ongoing fascination with the alchemy of water and light. Prints by Quinn, of fish and fish bones, evoke the fragility and beauty of life on earth and under water. Oil and watercolor interpretations of humans, fish and rocks in water, round out the exhibit.

The artists will discuss their work on Saturday, Aug. 7 at 3 p.m., followed by a reception from 4 – 7 p.m., at The Center for Arts in Natick, 31 Main St., Natick. In the past year, TCAN has shown the work of more than 100 area artists in 15 gallery shows.

The gallery is normally open from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays. Admission is free. Please call to double-check these hours, as the gallery is staffed by volunteers. The art can also be viewed during musical and spoken word performances at the Center, evenings Tuesday through Sunday. Ticket prices for these events vary.
